Los Angeles Dodgers backup Gavin Lux was sent off during a spring practice game against the San Diego Padres when he stomped awkwardly on the ground while running to third base after a grounded ball.
As the ball landed in the third baseman’s hands, Lux made contact with the sixth baseman and the third baseman quickly turned around and pitched to second base for an eventual double. At the same time, Lux tried to get out of the way of the throw, but his body did not move quite the way he wanted.
Lux’s knee seemed to twitch in the opposite direction from where he was running, causing him to instantly fall over. Lux fell to the ground near third base and got up, clutching his right knee.

With much pain, trainer and manager Dave Roberts soon met Lux in the sack. When it became clear that he would not be able to leave alone, the trolley bus moved towards the base.
There is no official word on Lux’s injury yet, but cart pushing is never a good sign for any professional athlete.
Lux, 25, will be the Dodgers’ starting shortstop on Opening Day as Trea Turner signed with the Philadelphia Phillies as a free agent this offseason.
He’s also working on that opportunity in Los Angeles, adding 20 pounds of muscle in the offseason, which is the arm strength and power he’s looking for.

For now, Luks just wants him to play this season as he waits for test results to determine his injury.
Lux hit .276/.346/.399 in 129 games for the Dodgers last season with six homers, seven MLB-leading triples and 20 doubles with 42 RBIs.

The Dodgers took Lux out of Indian Trail High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin in the first round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
